So first off, I’d like to show you the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. Essentially, WordPress.com is a way to set up a free blog on WordPress’ online platform. As you can see here on their home page, we have a form to fill in your blog subdomain and then the “Create website” button over here. This is actually one of biggest downsides to using the WordPress.com platform. While it’s free to start, you have to upgrade it to get a lot of the best features like your domain name, new themes, installing certain plugins and total freedom to do what you like with your blog.

You’ll still have a WordPress dashboard and a back-end as well as a front-end blog like this one, but you won’t have all of the features that you like. This is why over 90% of bloggers recommend going with the self-hosted version of WordPress which is available on WordPress.org. Once on the site, you’ll click on the “Download WordPress” button over here on the right that you’ll use for your hosting account and your own domain.

Most web hosts like Webhostinghub.com, for example, have a one-click installer that takes care of all of the technical details when it comes to installing WordPress yourself. So all you really have to do is cover the monthly hosting and yearly domain costs for full and total control over your new blog. This way you’ll have full access to hosting all the files you like, changing your theme and installing new themes, as well as installing more premium plugins, changing colors and settings and much more.
