How to Create Your Own Hosted WordPress.com Blog

Hi everyone, my name is Lindsey Aleson from blogmelovely.com and today I am going to show you just how easy it is to great your own hosted WordPress.com blog.

The first step is to go to wordpress.com and click the Create Website button. From here you are going to enter your site address. So what you want you URL to be. I am going to do blogmelovelytest. And it looks like that URL is available. So my URL will be blogmelovelytext.wordpress.com. Let’s create your site and continue.

From here you just need to enter in your login information – your current email, create a username, and enter a password. This will be how you will access your new blog.

The next step is finding a custom address. From here it gives you the option to purchase your own domain. So if you want your domain, this is the page you can add it to your cart. For now, I am going to say no thanks and stick with my wordpress.com URL.
Step four is where you get to choose your theme. The theme is like the layout of your blog, and this can be changed later so you are not stuck to the theme you choose now. Once you select your theme, it will give you an option to choose your plan.

We are going to go with the free wordpress.com plan right now, which is great for blogging. It gives you your wordpress.com address, basic customization options, and basic themes. You cannot do any ecommerce on your blog though. You do not have any video storage and you only have 3 GB of space. So I would get a Flickr account (https://www.flickr.com/) for photos and if you choose to do videos upload them to Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/) or YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/) to solve the space issue. There may be ads shown on your blog and the help you get is through the wordpress.com community. This is great if you are just starting out with blogging and you are not sure how seriously you are going to take it or if you are going to stick with it. So I suggest starting with the Free for Life version.

And there you go! Technically you have just created your very own wordpress.com blog. They created the first post for you. You can edit it or delete it.

Let’s see our new site. You can see the URL is blogmelovelytest.wordpress.com and you can see the theme I choose. So there you go, it is all set up and I can start posting and customizing to my heart’s content, within their limits of course. You created your own blog in less than 10 minutes!
